Want to get more out of your union, want to help organise, want training. Do you find yourself infuriated at management injustices, poor communications between management and the workforce, colleagues mistreated.

As a Steward you can help yourself, colleagues and UNISON combat social injustices, Health and Safety travesties and much more. Being a Union Steward can be a Daunting prospect, but it doesn't have to be!

All Unison Stewards receive training on being elected a Steward, this includes the following:

• Public Service Trade Unions in the 2010's
• The role of a Steward in Unison
• The role of Branches in Unison
• Equalities and Orgainising in Unison
• Why Equalities matter
• Organising in your workplace
• Recruiting
• Representating members
• Case management and interview practice
• Sources of Information and Support
• Achieving change and tackling inequality through UNISON.

This is delivered in a 5 day course usually spread over 2 weeks (3days and 2 Days), whether an internal branch organised course or a course at a TUC(Trade Union Council) training unit you will be amongst others who have chosen to speak out and help make the workplace a better place.

On becoming a steward you will also have the support of full time officials who can give you advice and step in when you need additional support. As well as branch officers, regional officers and senior stewards who can give you the benefit of their experience. Being a Steward need not be a Daunting prospect!

All elected Stewards are entitled to attend the monthly Branch Committee meeting and from here you can find out what is affecting colleagues in other parts of the branch and you can help shape Branch level policy on combating cut's, redundancies and attacks on our members terms and conditions.
