HERE’S HOW TO GET IT

For some time now the Branch has been reviewing the way in which direct support is given to members, having been faced with an increase in casework and in general enquiries to the Branch Office.  Following discussions with Stewards and Branch Officers at Branch Committee, and having taken advice from UNISON’s North West Regional Office, the following procedure is to be used:-

All members with new cases or new enquiries, (‘new’ referring to issues that are not currently being dealt with), should in the first instance do the following:

• Contact their UNISON Steward See list. The Steward will then discuss the issue with the member, and if necessary will seek advice from the two Convenors, (Branch Secretary James Robinson and Assistant Branch Secretary Paula Carlyle), at the Branch Office, and will deal with the query as far as he/she is able.
• Complete a CaseForm if requested by their Steward, this is the method by which a case is escalated, either for the direct intervention of one of the Convenors, or to obtain advice from the Regional Officer, or legal advice on the case.
• In an emergency where no Steward is available members should ring the Branch Office on 0151 548 0148.
• In an emergency where no Branch based representative is available members should ring UNISON Direct on 0800 0857 857.

Members ringing the Branch Office directly will be referred back to their Steward; members with no Steward should ring the Branch Office with their queries, but pressure of work may result in delays in their case being dealt with. All members in Worksites with no Stewards should therefore consider electing a Steward. (All Stewards attend training courses and are entitled to paid time for this).

Unison Regional Officer will visit the Branch on a regular basis in order to advise the Convenors, Stewards and if appropriate members on cases.
